Note:
The character Marissa Faireborn first appeared in the third season of the Transformers animated series. This series was released in Japan as "Transformers: 2010", and Marissa was renamed "Melissa". Other than the name change , she remained the same character. It is safe to assume that the "Melissa" in Transformers: KissPlay is intended to be Marissa Faireborn.

Profile: Marissa Faireborn
Species: Human Kiss-Player
Function: Resistance
Partner: Convoy

Ability: An American Kiss-Player who is a partner of Convoy. Kiss-Players are people with special powers who can fuse with Transformers by kissing them and give them power. Her surfing and knife-wielding abilities are first-rate.

Weaknesses: She is surprisingly dopey. Although she has agility, her motor reflexes are not that good. She has problems with stamina. She is not good at her studies. She cannot read kanji. She does not like junk food very much. She likes meat. She likes Japanese beef. She likes to eat Japanese.

Profile: She has a gaijin sort of way of speaking. [i.e. heavily accented speech in Japanese, incorrect intonations] She was born in New York, America. She is not good at Japanese.

She has a bright personality that sweeps everybody around her into her pace and has a unique world-view that is all her own. Furthermore, she is a kind and strong female who has a maternal ability to accept and embrace all beings. In a world that views Transformers as the enemy, she believes that Cybertrons are humanity's allies, and she is a resistance member who battles against the E.D.C. [Earth Defense Army].

In the past, when her father, who was a military man, battled alongside the Cybertrons, young Marissa had her life saved by Convoy. Marissa hated her military father, who was dedicated to his work, but Convoy acted as a paternal figure and lectured her.

Marissa, having heard that Convoy had died in battle in America, traveled to Japan along with the resistance in order to retrieve Convoy's remains, which had been collected by the E.D.C. There, Convoy received Marissa's kiss, gained a new body and awakened.

In the Manga:
In the KissPlay manga, Marissa worked with some unnamed resistance members in an attempt to remove Convoy from the E.D.C.'s possession. While the other resistance members used force and (implied) gunfire to subdue the E.D.C. operatives, Marissa preferred to incapacitate her opponents by slashing their clothes off with her knife. She exhibited tremendous knife-wielding ability as well as tenacity, as she was able to fight off the paralysing effects of a Kremzeek gun long enough to unsheath a large knife and throw it with enough force to slice open a cargo container.

Marissa had a very strong bond with Convoy, as shown through her flashbacks to childhood basketball-games with him. She claimed that the feelings she had for him were much more special than the bond between a daughter and father, and her attitude towards him was always one of adoration and protectiveness.

Due to the short duration of the KissPlay manga, Marissa did not have an opportunity to interact with many other characters. She faced off against Syao Syao with no indication of recognizing her, and likewise did not say anything directly to Atari during their two encounters.

In the Audio Drama series:
Marissa is voiced by Lyrian.
In the KissPlay audio dramas, Marissa showed a more light-hearted side. Many of Marissa's monologues consisted of Marissa lovingly boasting about her "boyfriend" Convoy, and her stories were just as likely to involve car-washing and surfing excursions as Legion attacks or encounters with the E.D.C.

However, some audio drama stories showed Marissa's tender, sentimental side. She expressed joy at making a new friend in Atari, as well as great sorrow at the possibility that they would someday do battle. (The exact timing of this particular story is unknown, given that she attacked Atari with a knife on their first encounter in the manga and did not recognize Atari during the events of Someday Under the Sun.)

Marissa spoke with a pronounced accent and sing-song intonation, peppering her sentences with English words and phrases. Her inability to read kanji was never brought up in the radio play, and overall she showed a great deal of familiarity with Japanese culture and traditions.
In the first episode of the audio dramas, Marissa's monologue was accompanied by splashing sounds and echoes which suggested that she was chatting while taking a bath. In later episodes, there were no further indications that the monologues were spoken during her bathtime; however, her voice took on a strange echoing effect whenever the conversation took a romantic turn.
